FAQs

If you answer yes to more than two of these, you are likely a good candidate for NUCCA.

  • You have had a concussion, and/or played contact sports growing up.
  • You have been in a car accident.
  • You don’t want or are afraid of neck cracking adjustments.
  • You have never had specific x-rays taken of your neck.
  • You have neck pain and stiffness.
  • You have muscle imbalances alongside poor posture.
  • You’ve tried other therapies with limited or no improvements.
  • You want more than just a temporary, “quick fix” solution.

Traditional chiropractors aim to improve local joint function using HVLA (high-velocity, low-amplitude) adjustments to various segments of the spine. NUCCA chiropractors focus on the upper neck and use precise and light adjustments to bring the head and neck to a balanced position. There is no twisting, cracking or popping with the NUCCA adjustment. By gently balancing the head over the neck, NUCCA allows for sustainable structural and postural shifts.

No, the adjustment is extremely gentle. All you will feel is light pressure behind your ear, as if someone were taking your pulse. After the correction, you may experience temporary discomfort as your body responds to its new alignment. We will prepare you for what to expect after your first adjustment.

The NUCCA procedure is an image-guided adjustment. We take x-rays at the junction of the head and neck so we can calculate a precise adjustment unique to your structure. This allows us to eliminate any guesswork when it comes to this vital area. After the first adjustment, a second set of films are taken and compared to the first in order to visualize the correction. The digital x-ray technology used keeps radiation exposure to a minimum. We do not take x-rays every visit.

Your neck is responsible for regulating overall body posture. When there is postural distortion, the joints and muscles of your shoulders, back, and legs must compensate for these shifts, and over time, the additional stress may cause these areas to break down. By improving postural control from the neck, we can reduce stress throughout the body, including your lower back.

The NUCCA adjustment is not a magical or quick fix solution. When you break a bone, your physician would have it cast for six to eight weeks, which is the typical amount of time for bone to heal. When addressing spinal misalignment, the supporting musculature and ligaments have been compromised, and you must allow for the necessary time for them to heal in a balanced position. Muscles and ligaments together take about 12 weeks to undergo a full cycle of healing. After this initial period, your soft tissue will be better able to support you in your new alignment. However, this is just a benchmark, and recovery times differ from person to person. The longer your spine has been out of alignment or the more severe the postural imbalance, the more possible damage has occurred, which may require longer healing times.

With NUCCA, the goal is not only to realign the upper neck, but to stabilize the correction as well. This is called “holding” a correction. As our patients hold their corrections for longer periods of time, the frequency of visits will decrease. We do have patients who like to come in every while or so to ensure that they are still holding their correction or need to be adjusted again.

We understand that the most important part of any health visit is a good assessment and examination. At the beginning of care we will go through the initial NUCCA procedure, which covers an extremely thorough history, spinal, neurological and postural exam, pre x-rays, post x-rays and the first adjustment. Our service charge for the first two visits is $360, which covers the initial procedure detailed above. The following check-up visits will have a service charge of $60.  Please call our office at 416-445-9355 for a more detailed explanation, we are more than happy to answer any questions.
